Jewelry designers: Showcase your work in a 2009 juried exhibition presented by
Bead&Button magazine and the International Society of Glass Beadmakers!

***
CONVERGENCE: Contemporary Jewelry Design with Art-Glass Beads --
inspired by the four elements of earth, fire, water, and air

Bead&Button magazine and the International Society of Glass Beadmakers invite you to participate in a one-of-a-kind jewelry-design exhibition in 2009! Our mission is to showcase how handmade glass beads are incorporated into exhibition-quality jewelry, to publish an ISGB catalog of the exhibit, and to publish selected jewelry with how-to instructions in a Bead&Button publication.

The International Society of Glass Beadmakers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the traditions of the art of glass beadmaking, promoting educational initiatives on techniques and trends, and establishing programs that promote the art and appreciation of glass beadmaking.

ISGB and B&B are sponsoring a juried exhibition of original jewelry designed with ISGB members' lampwork beads. The exhibit will be displayed in spring 2009 at the Ohio Glass Museum in Lancaster (tentative); June 3-7 at the Bead&Button Show in Milwaukee; and July 24-26 at the ISGB Gathering in Miami. It may be displayed in additional locations as well. An ISGB catalog of exhibition pieces will be published. The theme for designing the jewelry is the four elements -- earth, fire, water, and air.

From the exhibition pieces, Bead&Button will select 15-20 designs to be published with step-by-step jewelry-making instructions, photos, and illustrations, and jewelry designers' biographies and photos. Designers will be paid for publication. We will also include biographies and photos of the lampworkers with the jewelry that showcases their beads.

To participate, complete and submit the online form at BeadAndButton.com/ISGB by August 15, 2008. Registration is online only.

  • You will be paired with an ISGB member of your choice, or with one selected by ISGB, if you prefer. If you write the name of an ISGB member on the online form, we will try to match you with your choice. You can search for ISGB members at www.isgb.org under "about us," "links."

  • In early September, ISGB will provide you with details and a contract that will need to be signed upon jurying into the exhibit, plus, contact information for your beadmaker partner, and directions for submitting photos for jurying.

  • You will be responsible for collaborating directly with your ISGB partner, requesting beads from your partner, meeting all deadlines, and sending photos of your finished jewelry and $20 jury fee to the ISGB by February 1, 2009.

  • ISGB, B&B, and independent representatives will jury the exhibit; the ISGB will notify you about acceptance by February 20. If your piece is selected for the exhibit, you will need to send it to B&B in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, immediately, so that it is received by March 2.

  • Design your jewelry using the theme of earth, fire, water, and air. All designs must be original! You are responsible for the cost of materials. Beadmakers are prepared to donate beads to you. We ask that you donate the jewelry to be auctioned at the Miami Gathering for the Craft Emergency Relief Fund and ISGB educational programs.

  • Please title your piece and write a one- to two-paragraph description of your inspiration, materials, and jewelry-making techniques to send to ISGB with your photos.

  • Design your jewelry knowing that you may be asked to share instructions for it in print (see the online form). B&B's goal is to publish a limited selection of necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, in fall 2009. Keep detailed notes about all materials (including specific quantities and sources), techniques, and each jewelry-making step, in case your design is selected for publication. B&B will select designs for publication and send all the details to the designers selected. Artists retain all rights to original designs and instructions. You are not required to participate in the Bead&Button publication.

  • We hope you decide to take part in this rewarding event! Please submit your online form ASAP. Registration is only available online.
